Celebrate the bounty of Adams County, Pa.’s harvest from orchards and farms throughout the region, Aug. 11-20, through the inaugural “Bounty of the County” event. Over the course of 10 days, restaurants throughout the Gettysburg region will offer specialized menus – custom-made with the help of local farms in the peak of harvest season.
Ten restaurants are participating in this first-ever event, including Food 101, Fidler & Co. Craft Kitchen, Dobbin House Tavern, Mason-Dixon Distillery, Inn at Herr Ridge, GarryOwen Irish Pub, The Pub, One Lincoln Food & Spirits, the Ugly Mug Café, and Treat Yo Self frozen yogurt shop.
“The event is a new way to reach out to locals and those who visit the Gettysburg area and want to enjoy all that Adams County can offer, including produce from the orchards of the South Mountain Fruit Belt,” said Sarah Lott Zost, promotions coordinator with the Adams County Fruit Growers Association, the organization leading the event. “Local farms have donated their peaches, apples, and other produce to turn into special appetizers, entrees, desserts, and beverages that highlight the great tastes and textures that come from farms right here.”
The “Bounty of the County” event is the latest in Adams County insurgence as a culinary destination. Gettysburg and the surrounding countryside boast a variety of foodie experiences, including great restaurants, food tours, and events throughout the year. In addition, the region features a variety of wineries, cideries, craft breweries and distilleries – many of which pull ingredients straight from the Adams County soil.
“This new event is a great addition to the culinary experience in Adams County,” said Norris Flowers, President of Destination Gettysburg. “We’re excited to see our restaurants and chefs working so closely with the farmers here in the region.”
Those wishing to participate in the “Bounty of the County” event simply need to visit one of the participating restaurants between Aug. 11-20 and choose from a variety of food and drink items on the customized menus.
“The farming community of Adams County wants to bring delicious fresh produce straight from the orchards and fields,” said Zost. “We want to get everyone thinking about farming and the harvest as we kick harvest into high gear.”
